Deleting a Folder or Object
You can permanently delete objects or folders that are located in the Portal Catalog using the Delete action in the Portal Catalog context menu. If you delete a folder, its contents are also deleted, including subfolders.
Note
The Portal Catalog does not display child objects embedded in other objects, such as iViews assigned to a page, or a page assigned to a role. To delete child objects, you must use the delete function available in the respective object editor.
When using the Delete action in the Portal Catalog context menu, the Delete wizard verifies the following to determine whether the selected objects can be deleted without further action by the user:
Verification |
Description |
|---|---|
Object dependencies |
Objects you have selected for deletion may have objects that are related to them. For example, an object you have selected may be a source object for other delta link target objects. If you delete an object that has dependencies pointing to it, the dependencies will no longer function; unless you later replace the deleted object with an object with the same object ID.
Delta link objects that cannot locate their source object are displayed in the Portal Catalog with a special icon. These objects are referred to as unresolved or dangling links. End of the note. The wizard displays any external dependencies (objects that are not in the selection range). After viewing the dependencies, you can determine whether you want the delete action to proceed. |
Object locking status |
Objects being edited by you or another user are locked by the system. Objects or folders that are already locked by another user or portal process cannot be deleted. In the Delete wizard, objects are also considered locked if they have dependent objects that are currently locked. More information: Object Locking The wizard displays locked objects that prevent completion of the action. |
Permissions |
Administrator permissions are assigned to every object in the Portal Catalog and determine which actions can be performed by users. The wizard informs you if you do not have the necessary permissions. More information about the permission settings required to delete objects: Permission Levels |
Hidden or filtered objects |
The Portal Catalog is used by many editors in the portal. Each editor displays only the objects that are relevant to it. For example, in the Portal Content Studio you may be working with iViews in a particular folder, but the iViews are not displayed in the same folder in the System Landscape Editor. The wizard informs you if a folder contains objects that are filtered out in the current editor. These objects are deleted if you instruct the wizard to continue. |
Caution
After the selected objects have been deleted, they cannot be restored. There is no recovery feature in the portal.
In the Portal Catalog, right-click the folder or object that you want to delete and from the context menu choose Delete. The Delete wizard opens.
Note
The wizard immediately locks the selected object or folder (and the objects in the selected folder) until the delete action has been completed and the wizard closes.
If the object that you are deleting is a source object that is referenced by other objects using a delta link, the dependent objects are displayed and you can choose to delete some or all of the dependent objects together with the source object.
Note
Dependent objects that are not deleted may not function properly after the source object has been deleted.
The list of dependent objects does not include objects that are used in external scenarios, such as remote delta links.
You cannot delete dependent objects that are part of a transport package.
Click the Finish button to perform the delete action. You are notified when the selected objects have been successfully deleted. All remaining objects that were locked by the system as a result of the action are then released.
Click Cancel at any time to abort the action.
Note
If the delete action is interrupted before the selected objects have been deleted, the Portal Catalog is restored to its initial state.
Open the parent object in which the object that you want to delete is embedded.
