Use

Profiling enables you to examine diverse aspects of a VM Container application. You do this in the configuration for the profiling session.

Procedure

...

       1.      Call up the VMC system administration (transaction SM53), and choose Profiling on the left-hand side in the navigation tree.

       2.      Configure your profiling session. There are various ways of doing this:

You can create a new session and set all the analysis parameters: Creating and Starting New Sessions. You can display the analysis parameters for an existing session by selecting the session, and choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Display Analysis Parameters.

You can copy the analysis parameters from an existing session. To do this select the session, and in the upper menu bar choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Copy Analysis Parameters, or choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text New Session with this Template. The same dialog box appears as when you create a new session, but the one here has the settings copied from the session you selected. You can change the analysis parameters and save them for reuse, as you can with newly created parameters.

       3.      Run the application for which you want to perform profiling.

       4.      Close your profiling session by selecting the running session and choosing  This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Close Session. Data collection for this session is stopped, and the session goes from status This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Session Not Stopped to statusThis graphic is explained in the accompanying textSession Stopped.

Caution

Note that a profiling session must always be closed explicitly. It is not automatically closed when you leave the profiling transaction (SM53). This means a running session can also be closed when transaction SM53 is called again later.

Note

Running or stopped sessions can be closed, evaluated or deleted equally by all users in an application server (provided they are authorized to use SM53).
