User Authentication and Single Sign-On 

There are several mechanisms for user authentication available for the SAP NetWeaver Application Server (AS Java). If you have several systems in your system landscape, the Single Sign-On (SSO) environment is a useful feature, to reduce the number of logon procedures a user must perform.

The AS Java is the underlying technology for authenticating users. The following table gives an overview of the available user authentication services and if the service is used directly for user authentication or for SSO.
