Purpose

SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI) monitoring offers two different approaches for monitoring PI installations:

Monitoring of an individual PI domain

To monitor an individual PI installation, use Runtime Workbench.

The Runtime Workbench runs on the Integration Server, but it also allows the monitoring of distributed PI components, such as local Advanced Adapter Engines or proxy runtimes from SAP business systems.

Start the Runtime Workbench from the PI start page of your Integration Server (http://<host>:<port>/dir) under Configuration and Monitoring Runtime Workbench.

      Monitoring of multiple PI domains

To monitor multiple PI installations, use the PI monitoring in the SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

Start SAP NetWeaver Administrator for PI from the PI start page of your Integration Server (http://<host>:<port>/dir) under Configuration and Monitoring NetWeaver Administrator.

More information: PI Monitoring Using the SAP NetWeaver Administrator

Integration

The Runtime Workbench enables you to navigate to the monitoring functions of the Integration Engine, as well as integrate with the SAP Computing Center Management System (CCMS), and the SAP Process Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI).

CCMS and PMI can be configured on a central monitoring server (CEN). For more informationen about central monitoring with CCMS, see Monitoring Setup Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 under service.sap.com/operationsNW70 Monitoring.

You can also access specific PI monitoring functions by using the SAP NetWeaver Administrator of your local AS Java, for example, to monitor a non-central Advanced Adapter Engine or Partner Connectivity Kit (PCK). You start the local SAP NetWeaver Administrator with the URL http://<host>:<port>/nwa.

Note

The Advanced Adapter Engine will be referred to simply as the Adapter Engine in the remainder of this document.

Features

You have the following options in PI monitoring:

      Component Monitoring

      Message Monitoring

      End-to-End Monitoring and Configuration

      Performance Monitoring

      Index Administration

      Alert Configuration and Alert Inbox

      Cache Monitoring

You can access all of the above from the Runtime Workbench. You can also run component monitoring by using a special CCMS Alert Monitor, which monitors the individual PI components.
