Background documentation How to Use Categories  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Since most customers are operating many systems, the administrative personnel has no need to understand the inner structure of the software systems they are operating.

Log messages belonging to the same type of tasks are available in one and the same category. That is, messages are written from different software components into the same category if they belong to the same group of tasks, respectively the same main entity.

You can find the log categories in the following directory: <SAP_install_dir>/<system_name>/<instance_name>/j2ee/cluster/server<number>/log.

Category names are arranged hierarchically to reflect tasks and subtasks belonging together. Subcategories normally inherit properties of the parent category.

Caution

Bare in mind, that categories are created by default from the SAP Logging API. You cannot create your own categories.

Currently the following top-level categories are available:

      Archive

      System
