Identifiers are used to identify names of database objects, as there are table names, column names, display names for columns and table aliases. An identifier may be specified in a SQL statement either as a delimited identifier (an identifier enclosed in double quotes '"') or as a regular identifier (not enclosed in double quotes).

Generally, names of database catalog objects like column names or table names are case sensitive. If the name of a database object contains lower case letters or if it is equal to a reserved keyword, a delimited identifier has to be used to refer to it. Otherwise a regular identifier is suitable. The names of all catalog objects created with the Table Editor can be referred to with regular identifiers.
