Function documentation Displaying/Editing a Connection Between Selected Actions  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You have the option of displaying or editing a connection between two actions.

To edit a connection you can do the following:

Select an outbound-inbound interface pair from the list of possible interfaces for the action

Determine an interface mapping for this interface combination

Prerequisites

There are two situations in which you call the Display/Edit Connection editor:

A connection already exists between the two actions.

In this case you can do either of the following to call the Display/Edit Connection editor:

In the graphical work area of the Process Integration Scenario editor, double click a connection

Position the cursor on a connection line and choose Display/Edit Connection Between Selected Actions from the context menu

Note

In both cases the actions concerned are selected.

First select both actions and choose Display/Edit Connection Between Selected Actions. For more information about selecting actions, see Functions of the Graphical Editor.

Note

If more than one connection is represented by the same connection line, the window Select Connection is called and displays a list of connections. Select a connection from this list and confirm your selection by choosing Apply.

The connection has still not been created. In this case, follow the steps described in the Create Connection Between Selected Actions section.

Caution

The Display/Edit Connection editor is in the same state as the editor for the Process Integration Scenario that the connection belongs to. If the Process Integration scenario editor is in display mode, you can also display (but not change) the connection in this editor.

Features

The Display/Edit Connection editor is structured as follows:

From and To Frame

This frame displays both actions to be connected. This includes the name of the action, the role of the application component, and the software component version (field Component) Template is shown in the Component field for an action that is used in an application component of type Template.

Note

In a synchronous connection you can swap from actions (from the connection) and to actions (to the connection) by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Connection Type Frame

This frame defines the connection as a sequence, synchronous, or asynchronous connection.

Due to the relative position of both actions in the Business Scenario, when you create a connection the system automatically defines the connection type.

If both actions belong to the same application component, Sequence is specified.

If the actions belong to different application components but are on the same level in the Process Integration Scenario graphical work area, Synchronous Communication is specified.

If the actions belong to different application components but are on the same level in the Process Integration Scenario graphical work area, Asynchronous Communication is specified.

A check box indicates whether the connection is a Connection with a B2B Component. This is the case if the communication mode B2B Communication was selected for one of the two application components (see Displaying/Editing an Application Component).

Tab Page Assign Interfaces

This tab page contains all interfaces that are assigned to the actions belonging to the connection. When you position the cursor on a line for an interface, the following information about the interface is displayed in a quick info box:

      Name

      Namespace

      Software Component Version

      Type (inbound, outbound or abstract)

      Modus (synchronous or asynchronous)

Unspecified Object (if no interface exists for this entry)

This may be the case if the interface was entered in the action editor manually but not in the interface editor.

To call the Display Service Interface editor for non-Unspecified Objects, double click.

In change mode you can select exactly one outbound-inbound interface pair for exchanging messages. However, only those interfaces that are appropriate for the type of connection can be selected. Therefore, you cannot select any synchronous service interfaces if the connection is an asynchronous connection.

Tab Page Assign Mapping

This tab page displays the interface mapping that is assigned to the selected interface pair.

To open the interface mapping, position the cursor on the name and choose Open (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) from the context menu.

To assign an interface mapping, call the input help (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) for the Name field. All interface mappings are displayed that are defined for the interface pair.

Tab Page Assign Communication Channel Template

Displays the communication channel templates that are assigned to the connection.

To open a communication channel template, position the cursor on the name and choose Open (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) from the context menu.

To assign a new communication channel template, call the input help (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) for the Name field.

Note

Assigning a sender communication channel template enables you to preconfigure the inbound processing of the message for this connection. Assigning a receiver communication channel template enables you to preconfigure the outbound processing of the message for this connection (see also Collaboration Agreement).

If you use the Process Integration scenario configurator for the configuration, assigned communication channel templates are taken into account when generating the collaboration agreements (see Assigning Communication Channels).

Integration with the Process Integration Scenario Editor

Before saving a Process Integration scenario, ensure that all the editors of the individual connections have been closed. The system displays a confirmation prompt that gives the user the option of closing all connection editors automatically, or canceling the save action to close them individually. The procedure is the same if you attempt to close a Process Integration Scenario with connection editors still open.
