Background documentation Update Manager  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The Update Manager is a standard function of Eclipse and is used to update the features/plug-ins of the Developer Studio. The Update Manager needs Internet access. It connects to the update site of the Developer Studio and examines its content. When an update is detected, you are informed which feature it is, you have to accept the license agreements and than you can initiate the installation.

Check the Current Version of Developer Studio and Features

To find out which version your Developer Studio has choose the command:

Help About SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio

The dialog window displays the version of the Developer Studio and contains buttons to check the feature and plug-in details. When you choose for example the Feature Details button, you get a list of the installed features with version number. The SAP features are listed under provider name SAP AG. When you choose one feature in the table you can view the details about this feature. When you choose the Plug-in Details button you get the information which plug-ins are assigned to this feature and which version the plug-ins have.

In case you cannot start the Developer Studio you can check the version by browsing to the installation folder you have chosen for the Developer Studio (for example Program Files\SAP\IDE) with the Windows Explorer. Open folder /plugins com.sap.netweaver.developerstudio_<version_id>. Choose the folder with the highest version id in case you have more than one folder with the prefix com.sap.netweaver.developerstudio. You find the version information of the developer studio in the file plugin.properties.

Checking for Updates

Depending on the preferences the Update Manager connects automatically at startup. The preferences for the update manager can be set under:

Window Preferences… Install/Update

Caution

Do not change the Update policy URL!

You can start the Update Manager manually with the command Help Software Updates Find and Install…

Uninstall Disabled Features

When you select an update, the Update Manager installs automatically also all depend features. During the update process the new features are installed parallel to the existing features. When the new features are installed, the old features are disabled, not removed. Since some of these features are pretty big, you should remove the disabled features. You can do this with the command:

Help Software Updates Uninstall Disabled Features
