The following figure illustrates the main components required for an application-to-application (A2A) integration and the communication between these components.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The Solution Manager and the System Landscape Directory are used to configure and model the entire system landscape including your individual application components.

The Enterprise Services Repository and the Integration Directory are used to design and configure your A2A integration.

The Integration Server then performs all the message processing.

The Runtime Workbench is used to monitor message processing on all involved components; the Solution Manager can be used to monitor your application components.

For high-availability considerations, refer to High Availability.
