Procedure documentation Configuring the GRMG for Java-Based Components  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use the Generic Request and Message Generator (GRMG) to monitor the availability of technical components and entire business processes.

In the two configuration tasks to configure the NWA and to add a monitored systems, you activate all available Java-based GRMG scenarios of the CEN and the monitored systems. This means that you monitor the following scenarios:

·        AS Java

·        Process Monitoring Infrastructure

·        Adobe Document Services

·        Business Communication Broker

·        Portal Infrastructure

·        WebDynpro

Depending on the scenario, you need to perform some manual configuration steps.

Prerequisites

This procedure is part of the process Wizard-Based Configuration of the NWA. Note the prerequisites specified there.

The following prerequisites also apply specifically for GRMG:

·        GRMG requires a configured and active Internet Communication Manager (ICM) on every ABAP instance of your CEN.

·        For the GRMG monitoring of the Process Monitoring Infrastructure, there must be a destination called pmistore in the monitored Java system. This is created during the configuration task Initial setup of functional unit Integration Server of the Configuration Wizard (see Wizard-Based Configuration for Usage Type PI).

Procedure

       1.      You have started the Configuration Wizard in the NWA of the CEN, and have started one of the following administration tasks:

¡        Configure NWA (see Configuring the NWA); in this task, you have selected the GRMG Setup indicator, and you are at the step in which you select the available GRMG components

¡        NWA Add Managed System(see Adding a Monitored System to the NWA); in this task, you have selected the Configure GRMG indicator, and are at the step in which you can select the available GRMG components

¡        Standalone Setup for GRMG, in this task, you have selected the system for which you want to monitor the GRMG components

Note

GRMG configuration is part of different configuration tasks. You usually want to activate all available GRMG scenarios. In this case, you only need to perform the configuration steps in the tasks for configuring the central system (Configure NWA for Double Stack System) and for each monitored system (NWA for Double Stack System: Add Managed System), and selected the entry All from the Available Scenarios dropdown listbox in each case.

However, if you only want to activate certain GRMG scenarios, you need to perform the configuration task Standalone Setup for GRMG once for each desired scenario and monitored system.

       2.      The dropdown listbox Available Scenariosdisplays all GRMG scenarios available to you in the monitored system. Choose the entry All from the list to start all GRMG scenarios.

Note

If you do not want to activate all GRMG scenarios, select a desired scenario. To activate additional scenarios, execute the configuration task Standalone Setup for GRMG again repeatedly until you have activated all desired scenarios.

Choose Next.

       3.      Continue to perform the task in accordance with the relevant description.

       4.      In CEN, call transaction SE38, enter SAPMSSYT in the Program input field, and start the program by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Execute).

Note

By manually calling this program, which is automatically called once an hour, you ensure that all GRMG scenarios that you activated in the above configuration task are immediately available in CEN.

       5.      For the scenario J2EE.PI (Portal Infrastructure), you still need to make some manual settings. Proceed as described in Setting Up GRMG Monitoring of the Portal Infrastructure.

Checking the Entries (Optional)

       6.      To check whether the monitoring with GRMG was correctly set up, log on to the ABAP stack of CEN, and start transaction GRMG. The selected scenarios should be shown in the list of GRMG Scenarios for Availability Monitoring and have the scenario execution status This graphic is explained in the accompanying text .
