Background documentation Monitoring SAP NetWeaver  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use this scenario variant to monitor your SAP NetWeaver system landscape. For effective monitoring with as low a TCO as possible, we recommend that you use a central monitoring system, from which you can monitor your entire system landscape on the basis of the CCMS monitoring infrastructure (see also the general introduction to Monitoring SAP NetWeaver).

Use the following tools for your central monitoring, depending on the installable units of which your system landscape consists:

      SAP Net Weaver Administrator (NWA)

If you use the installable unit AS Java productively in a system landscape, use SAP NetWeaver Administrator for your central monitoring. This should be set up on a system with the installable units AS ABAP, AS Java, and EP as a central administration and monitoring system. You also require a System Landscape Directory (SLD).

A Configuration Wizard is available to you to configure the central NWA (see Wizard-Based Configuration of the NWA).

      Alert Monitor

Use the Alert Monitor if your system landscape consists exclusively of systems with the installable unit AS ABAP. Set up the Alert Monitor on an ABAP system, the central monitoring system. In this case you do not require an SLD.

In both cases, detailed information about setting up the central administration and monitoring system is available in the Monitoring Setup Guide at the Internet address service.sap.com/instguidesnw. From here, choose the current SAP NetWeaver release and the area Monitoring.
