Using the Mail Adapter to Integrate E-Mail Servers 

The following documentation contains a description of how you can connect e-mail servers to the Integration Server by using the mail adapter. The e-mail server can assume the role of either a sender system or a receiver system, or both.

Description

Using the mail adapter, you can connect the Integration Server to an e-mail server and exchange messages. The mail adapter collects a message from the e-mail server, converts the e-mail to the XI message protocol and then sends the message to the Integration Server to be processed further.

To forward messages to a receiver e-mail server, the mail adapter receives the message from the Integration Server, converts the XI message to an e-mail and sends it to the e-mail server.
