Use

With traditional bar code printing, the bar codes are generated at the printer and not in the SAP system. Special hardware, such as SIMM modules, is required to do this. If the bar code is to be formatted or controlled with traditional bar code printing, print controls must be changed in the printer commands. In contrast, the new bar code printing does not require any special software, since the bar codes are sent to the printer as graphics. The bar code can also be simply changed using transaction SE73.

In the case of Smart Forms, you can choose whether you want to use the new type of bar code creation, or the traditional method. With SAPscript, only the traditional procedure works.

For more information about printing bar codes using the traditional procedure, see the following sections:

What hardware and software requirements exist for bar code printing.

How you test bar code printing.

How you add your own bar code definitions and set up printers that have not been predefined for printing bar codes.
