Purpose

This section contains information about the administration tasks for ABAP Connectivity. Connectivity encompasses the communication technologies offered by SAP. These can be used to exchange data either between two SAP systems or between an SAP system and a third-party system.

Technical Components

The administration tasks for Connectivity are structured according to the following technologies:

  • Remote Function Call (RFC)

    SAP technology for data transfer using the RFC interface

  • SAP Gateway

    Component of the application server that is responsible for data exchange through RFC

  • SAP Java Resource Adapter (SAP JRA)

    SAP Java Connector add-on for communication between ABAP and Java systems.

  • Internet Communication Framework (ICF)

    ABAP server communication via HTTP.

  • IDoc Interface

    IDocs (Intermediate Documents) are SAP-specific data containers that are used for structured data transfer (for business documents for example).

  • ALE

    ALE (Application Link Enabling) is an SAP technology for communication in a distributed system landscape.
