Background documentation SMS Connector  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The SMS Connector component is essential for providing integration with SAP. This component is responsible for obtaining notifications from SMS and notifying SAP of it. The SMS Connector operates in two different modes:

·        Clean Mode – Used when an SMS administrator is certain that all devices, which are part of the integration, do not have the Data Orchestration Engine (DOE) client installed. A new logical device is generated in the DOE for each mobile device that is part of the integration.

·        Upgrade Mode – Used when at least one mobile device has the DOE client installed. This causes the SMS Connector to first investigate the device ID being used by the DOE client before creating a new logical device in the DOE.

There are two Microsoft Windows services associated with the SMS Connector.

The SMSEventManagerService receives notifications from SMS when an event of interest has occurred.

The SMSNotificationService notifies the SAP system of discovery and assignment events.

The following graphic depicts the interaction between the two systems.
