Use

You use the Release function to forward the activities resulting from your software development work to the transport management functions of the Change Management Service (CMS).

Prerequisites

You have selected the correct development configuration in the Development Infrastructure perspective of SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.

You have created and activated activities.

Procedure

...

       1.      In the Transport View, select the node of the workspace whose activities you want to release.

       2.      Expand the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Waiting node. Under the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text <default> change request, you see the list of activities you have selected.

       3.      Select the activities that you want to release.

       4.      Open the context menu and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Release. The Release for Transport dialog box appears.

This dialog box shows you the following information:

       Change Request Caption

In this field, you can enter a caption for the change request. This caption will then appear later in the import queue of the CMS. The names of the selected activities are given as a default caption.

       Predecessors Check

Here, you see the result of the check for existing predecessor activities. Predecessor activities share their source code with the selected activities. The changes made in the predecessor activities are older than the changes made in the selected activities. The predecessor relationships are displayed in a hierarchy structure. For consistency, the predecessors are always released automatically at the same time.

       Activity Details

Here, you can display and check the content of the activities you want to release. To display an activity, you must select it in the Predecessors Check field.

       5.      Choose Release. CMS packs the selected activities in a change request and places them in the import queue of the follow-on systems.

Note

If the predecessor check results in predecessor activities also being released, the label of the release button changes to Release with all predecessors.

Result

You have packed one or more activities in a change request and released them for transport. Depending on what happens after they are released, the activities appear either under the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Released node or This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Failed node in the Transport View.
