Role-Based Assignment of Mobile
Components
The role based of assignment of mobile components simplifies the rollout of devices. The mobile system landscape consists of a large number of mobile devices. To ensure that device users can use these mobile devices to perform their activities, you need to assign a number of mobile components to these devices. To ensure that only relevant mobile components are assigned to a device, you can assign mobile components based on the user of that device. However, to perform this activity for thousands of users and in turn thousands of devices is a time consuming task. Therefore, to simplify the assignment of mobile components to devices, you can assign mobile components to roles. You can assign all types of mobile components, such as JVM, database, applications, agents, to a role.
When you assign a mobile component to a role, the DOE retrieves information about all the users assigned to that role along with the devices assigned to these users. The DOE then assigns the mobile component to these devices. In addition, the DOE assigns the dependent mobile components if any to these devices. Subsequently, the mobile component is transferred to these devices when they connect to the DOE to synchronize data.
To assign mobile components to a role, you must download the required roles and the corresponding users from the back-end system. You can select the back-end system from where you want to download the roles and users. To do this, you can use standard BAPIs. When you create a new device and assign a user for that device, all mobile components that are assigned to the user’s role are assigned to the device.
You may encounter a conflict of mobile component assignment on a device, if you assign mobile components to a device by using more than one of the following methods:
· Assign mobile components directly to a device
· Assign mobile components through a device profile
· Assign mobile components through roles (by changing the role of the device user)
The mobile components assigned through roles can be unassigned either through roles administration UI or manually from a device. These mobile components cannot be unassigned from device profiles.
If the DOE is upgraded from SP02 to SP03, then you must trigger a delta download for the data objects:
