Procedure documentationNavigating in the Results Locate this document in the navigation structure

The results are displayed in a list. To the left of the list, you can find the navigation area for further narrowing down the results.

The list is sorted by relevance, which is calculated based on the following factors:

  • Degree of match between the search team and the hit (from the exact character string to less exact matches)

  • Number of hits within an object (in documents or text fields proportional to the text length and frequency of other words)

  • Preferential treatment of individual search forms or search criteria defined in the configuration

An entry in the list corresponds to a business object or document and is structured as follows:

  • Image and title

The image is either an icon that illustrates the type of object found or a picture of the object. Depending on the object and the configuration, the title can be the document title, the material number, or the business partner name, for example.

  • Object type

The object type of the hit is displayed to the right of the title.

  • Central attributes

Central attributes of the object found are displayed below the title, for example the dimensions, price, and short description of a product. The positions of the search terms are highlighted in attribute values or in texts.

  • Details and related actions

The links at the end of each entry allow you to display more details and, depending on the system configuration, related actions.

Procedure

You can perform the following actions in the results list:

Action

Explanation

Narrow Down Hits

You can narrow down the results further using the navigation on the left of the results list to drill down through the main categories to the subcategories and then to individual places searched and filter attributes. The results list changes as a consequence of each selection. Selected categories and object types are highlighted.

Note Note

The number of hits is shown in brackets and is an estimate rather than an exact number for performance reasons, so it may vary slightly depending on your selection.

You can choose Choose More... to open a dialog box in which you can see all categories or object types. You can make multiple selections here.

You can use the “BreadCrumb” above the results list to navigate back to the top.

End of the note.

As soon as you have narrowed down the selection to objects with common attributes, these attributes and their values or value ranges are displayed in the navigation area. You can click an attribute value or a value range to filter results with these values, for example, all products that cost between €100 and €300. You can set more than one filter and remove individual filters again by clicking the (X) symbol.

Note Note

You can choose Choose more... to open a dialog box in which you see all attributes and their values, from which you can then choose.

End of the note.

Changing the Sort Order of the Results List

As soon as you have narrowed down the search to objects with common attributes, you can choose Sort By in the header to sort the results by these attributes instead of by relevance.

Note Note

If you choose an attribute, the results are sorted according to the value for this attribute alphabetically or numerically. You can then toggle between ascending and descending sort orders.

End of the note.

Scrolling in the Results List

You can use the arrows and Results per Page in the footer to scroll between the pages and change the number of results per page.

Note Note

To change the default setting for the number of results per page, choose   Personalize   Results Display   Results per Page

End of the note.

Performing Actions on an Object

Clicking the title of a result launches an application to display or edit the business object or document.

Depending on your system configuration, the links beside Details allow you to perform further actions, for example to go to related objects or display an address on a map.

Displaying Details of an Object

You can use Details and Close Details to show and hide an area on the right-hand side that displays all important attributes for the selected object and further information.

Note Note

The entry in the results list for which the details are displayed on the right-hand side, is marked by a colored bar.

End of the note.
