BI Metadata Search  

Use

You use the TREX search engine to search for BI metadata (such as InfoCubes, InfoObjects, queries, and Web templates) in the following modes: The simple search is a pure text search, whereas the advanced search allows you to search according to attributes, using specific restrictions, or using a full-text search.

Integration

The BI metadata search is integrated into the functional areas of the Data Warehousing Workbench:

The BI metadata search is also integrated into some object editors and the BEx open dialog.

Prerequisites

...

       1.      You can only use the full functions for searching in metadata if the search engine is fully installed.

If the search engine is not fully installed, you can still use the simple search, which the system then performs in the database. As a result, the search is slower, case-sensitive, and does not support a search in the attributes.

Make sure that you have performed the following steps:

○       Installed the TREX search engine

○       Created an RFC destination in the BI system for the TREX search engine

○       Entered the RFC destination in table RSODADMIN_INT

       2.      The metadata has to be indexed.

                            a.      The object types relevant for the BI metadata search have to be specified, and the metadata has to be indexed initially.

                            b.      You have to schedule the (delta) indexing of metadata as a regular job (transaction RSODADMIN).

You make the required settings in the Administrationfunctional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench. For more information about managing the BI metadata search, see Tab Page: Metadata Indexing.

Features

The system provides the following options as part of the simple and advanced search functions:

Simple Search

With the simple search, the system searches in one or all object types for the text entered in the technical name and description. The search is not case-sensitive. It finds objects even if the capitalization in the text entered is different from the capitalization in the search term.

Advanced Search

With the advanced text search, you can enter more than one search term. You have the following options:

●      with exact wording

●      with all search terms

●      with at least one of the search terms

●      without search terms

You can choose from the following search options:

●      Language: You can choose from all installed languages.

●      Version: In the default setting, the search is performed in the delivered A Version. Alternatively, you can search in the D Version instead.

●      Search method: The default setting is Normal. You can choose the Fuzzy search instead.

You can also search in the attributes specific to each object type. First select the Object Type. (Input help is provided.) The system displays the relevant attributes in the table. Enter the required values.

You can also restrict the search for all object types to last changed by and changed at or to changes made during a specific time period.

For example, you can search for all queries that were changed during the last month and contain the term "overview" in the text and the characteristic "customer" in the definition.

Activities

...

       1.      Use one of the methods described in the integration section to navigate to the BI metadata search.

       2.      Choose either the simple or advanced search and, as described in the features section, enter the required search terms, attributes, or restrictions.

       3.      Choose Start Search.

The system displays a list of the activated and BI Content objects sorted by object type (if you did not restrict them) and object name (technical name).
