Creating a Connection
You can create new connections to provider systems that use Web services connectivity (WS connectivity) or remote function call connectivity (RFC connectivity). The established system connections use a SOAP protocol or an RFC destination respectively.
You have created communication profiles. The profile must have at least one active version. For more information, see Preparing Communication Profiles
You have accessed the provider system list. For more information, see Creating Connections to Provider Systems
Choose New.
In case you want to use one of the systems defined in Services Registry, choose the button next to the System Name field and select one of the displayed systems.
This way all information about the selected system is copied to the new provider system connection.
In case you want to manually enter the system details, select the system type and then enter the system details as described in the table below:
System Type |
System Name |
Other Fields |
|---|---|---|
ABAP |
System ID of the provider system. |
In the Client field, enter the client number of the AS ABAP system. |
SAP AS Java |
System ID of the provider system. |
|
SAP Process Integration |
Display name of the provider system. |
|
Other |
Display name of the provider system. |
Enter a description of the system connection and then choose Next.
In the Enter Connection Details step, choose and add a connectivity type.
Note
The configuration tools examine the system landscape directory ID (SLD ID) of the connected provider system and thus recognize whether the system is local (the same system) or remote (a distant system). For AS Java provider systems, the SLD ID comprises the system ID (SID) and the database host. The database host name must be compliant with the SLD definition, for example the real host name of the database, excluding the domain but not localhost.
To enable local transport for Web services on a provider system, you have to assign a communication profile that is configured to use local transport.
For more information, see Configuring Web Service Connectivity to Communication Profiles
In Basic Mode.
The basic mode is enabled if the Advanced Mode switch is displayed.
In the WS Connectivity step, you can configure WS connectivity to the provider system.
Note
Enable Do not use WS Connectivity if you do not want to use Web service connectivity.
For more information, see Configuring Web Service Connectivity.
In theRFC Connectivity step, you can configure RFC connectivity to the provider system.
Note
Enable Do not use RFC Connectivity if you do not want to use remote function call connectivity.
For more information, see Configuring Remote Function Call Connectivity.
In Advanced Mode.
In case you want to make additional settings such as a timeout interval, choose Switch to Advanced Mode.
The advanced mode is enabled if the Basic Mode switch is displayed.
In the WS Connectivity step, you can configure WS connectivity to the provider system.
For more information, see Configuring Web Service Connectivity.
In the RFC Connectivity step, you can configure RFC connectivity to the provider system.
For more information, see Configuring Remote Function Call Connectivity.
Choose Next.
In the Test Connection step, you can see the result of the test connection.
Caution
In case of errors, you can still complete the wizard but the configuration would subsequently fail.
Choose Next.
In the Summary step, you can see the entities that would be created or modified.
Choose Finish.
