Adding and Editing Content in Workcenter Roles
The Workcenter Role editor assists you in creating content for the role, starting from the Overview views and services, through additional navigation entries and the Service Map. This section provides an overview of the different parts of the editor and describes the overall procedure for creating workcenter role content.
The following illustration graphically describes the general steps of the content creation process. Details of each step follow.

In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the workcenter role, choose . The Workcenter Role editor appears. A graphic representation of the role layout is displayed in the content area.
For more information about the elements of the screen, see Structure of a Design-Time Workcenter Role.
Define the first view for the Overview tab of the role, by using the New menu of the Views tray.
Creating a view container creates a standard Web Dynpro application with its set layout. In the New View Container dialog box, enter a Name and Description for the view. The Description is the text that is displayed with the view in the Service Map. You can also choose a pictogram to graphically represent the view in the Service Map.
Once you create the view container, you create the content for it using the New menu in the Preview area.
You can create an iView by either creating a new iView based on a template (see Creating Portal Objects) or by uploading an existing iView from a back-end system or other external repository (see Creating iViews from Remote Sources). You can create a page using the New Page wizard (see Creating Portal Pages).
Note
You can use the Detailed View to add content to views and view containers. To do so:
In the Portal Catalog, select the portal object whose content you want to reuse in the open role. The hierarchical navigation structure of the object is displayed in the Detailed View.
In the Detailed View, right-click the object and choose Add as View or Add as Home Page, as appropriate.
For each view of the role, you can define a list of services, which are related applications (linked iViews and pages) that are displayed in separate browser windows. You can group services into categories in the service list.
When you create a category (), enter a Name and a Description for it. The Description is the text that is displayed under the category name in the Service Map. To create iViews and pages within a category, use the New option in the menu of the selected category.
To create iViews and pages that stand alone in the list (outside categories), use the New menu of the Views tray.
Note
As described in the previous step, you can use the Detailed View to add services as well.
Create other views and their linked services by repeating steps 2. and 3.
You can preview the added content in the Preview area by choosing the Turn on Page Preview for this session link.
To create an additional second-level entry, choose . In the New Navigation Entry dialog box, enter a Name and Description.
Create the content for the new navigational entry by repeating steps 2 - 4.
To create a Service Map, which displays all the services of the Overview, choose .
Caution
If you have significant experience in portal content management, you may sometimes find it necessary to use the Go to Advanced editor link at the top right of the role editor. You must be aware that editing the workcenter role structure in this mode may irreversibly disrupt the workcenter role structure, so that subsequently, you will not be able to edit the role in the Basic editor.
You can modify any portal object in the Views list or Services list:
To access the object editor, choose Open from the context menu of the object in the list.
To access the Properties editor for the object, choose Edit Properties from the context menu.
The relevant object editor appears. You can choose any links in the link bar of the editor to modify other parameters of the object, as you would when editing any portal object.
To return to the role editor, use the breadcrumb above the link bar.
