The following figure shows the various systems that comprise the SAP NetWeaver Voice landscape and the interactions between them:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

The table below briefly describes the main elements in the SAP NetWeaver Voice landscape:

Role

Voice devices

Voice devices allow end users to access a voice application. These devices can be mobile telephones or fixed telephones and connect to a third-party VoiceXML gateway over a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or through voice over Internet Protocol.

Third-party VoiceXML gateway

Calls from the voice devices are directed to a third-party VoiceXML gateway. The third-party VoiceXML gateway interacts with the runtime component of SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (NW CE) over an HTTP connection or an HTTPS connection. The VoiceXML gateway and NW CE use XML to communicate.

More information: refer to third-party VoiceXML Gateway documentation.

SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (NW CE)

NW CE has two components:

  • Design-time: The design-time tool of NW CE is SAP Visual Composer. It embeds a voice kit that enables modeling of voice applications.

  • Runtime: The runtime component contains the following subcomponents:

    • Voice data runtime: This component provides access to the data at runtime. It interacts with the back-end system or the voice dialog runtime to provide the required data.

    • Voice dialog runtime: This component provides access to the runtime resources such as audio files, grammar files, and prompts to the voice application at runtime.

SAP Business Suite applications and services

An SAP R/3 Enterprise system contains the company’s master data and transactional data. It is an optional system in an SAP NetWeaver Voice landscape.

SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (BI)

This is an optional system in the SAP NetWeaver Voice landscape and is used to generate BI-related reports.
