A common definition is a definition that can be used across rulesets in a DC. Common definitions can be fixed or variable.

Procedure

  1. Locate the Project Resources node (Where is the Project Resources node?) and double-click the node.

  2. In the Project Resources editor that appears, choose the Common Definitions tab.

  3. In the common definition editor that appears, under the Fixed Definitions section, choose the Add icon and in the drop down that appears, select the relevant return type.

  4. Choose the default definition name and in the text box that appears, enter a valid name for the definition and press Enter.

  5. Choose the RHS value and in the drop down menu that appears enter a value in the inline text box or choose a definition or alias in the drop down menu.

  6. Repeat the steps under the Variable Definitions section.

After you create a common definition:

  • You cannot change the return type.

  • You can change the name and RHS value.

Converting a Definition to a Common Definition
  1. Locate the ruleset (Where is my ruleset?) and double-click the ruleset.

    or

    Locate the flow ruleset (Where is my flow ruleset?) and double-click the flow ruleset.

  2. In the ruleset editor or flow ruleset editor, choose the Definitions tab.

  3. In the definition editor, select a definition and in the context menu of the definition, choose Convert to Common Definition.

In the common definition editor, you should see the definition.
