Description

FPN Connections Concept

New

A new concept called FPN connections has been introduced in this release, and is aimed at lowering overall TCO of FPN in comparison to previous releases.

Before two portals can interact and share content with each other, a system administrator needs to make a logical connection between the portals in the federated portal network. In previous releases, this connection could only be initiated and created from the consumer portal, and the sharing of content was uni-directional (from producer to consumer). In addition, if two portals shared content with one another in both directions, two separate FPN registration instances were required (each initiated from the respective producer portal). The new FPN connection concept provides the following enhancements:

  • A single FPN connection pairs one SAP NetWeaver Portal to another – each portal in the FPN connection can be a producer and a consumer, at the same time. In previous releases, such a setup required the creation of two separate FPN registration instances (initiated from each consumer).

  • A producer portal can also initiate the creation of an FPN connection with a remote system.

    Note Note

The new infrastructure supporting FPN connections is not implemented on SAP NetWeaver 7.0. Therefore, FPN connections that involve an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 portal can only be created from the consumer portal.

Furthermore, since an SAP NetWeaver CE system can only function as a producer portal, access to the FPN Connection wizard and editor are disabled. To create an FPN-based connection between an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 portal (producer) and an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 portal (consumer), use the Producer wizard on the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 portal. After you create the producer instance, a uni-directional FPN connection is created on the SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 portal.

    End of the note.

The new concept and respective user interfaces only apply to remote role assignment and remote delta link usage. For WSRP application sharing usage, you continue to create a producer object on the consumer to facilitate the connection between your portal and a remote WSRP-compliant portal.

For more information, see Managing FPN Connections.

FPN Editors and Wizards

New and enhanced

New and improved editors and wizards are now available in the FPN administration environment in the portal, which significantly improve productivity and reduce overall TCO for the remote role assignment and remote delta link usage modes:

  • The Add an SAP NetWeaver Producer wizard from previous releases has been replaced by the new FPN Connection wizard. The new wizard allows you to create a bi-directional FPN connection between your system and a remote SAP NetWeaver 7.2 system (either system can be a producer, consumer, or both).

    Note Note

The ability to create an FPN connection is not available in an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 system.

    End of the note.

For more information, see Creating FPN Connections.

  • The new FPN Connection wizard now includes additional optional steps that allow you to fully configure an FPN connection without having to access several editors after the FPN connection has been created. The new steps in the wizard include options to configure trust between the systems, test the connectivity between the systems, and register the systems.

    Note Note

This functionality is not available in an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 system.

    End of the note.

Separate tools/editors are available for configuring trust, testing connectivity, and registration if you prefer to perform those after you have exited the wizard and created the FPN connection. For more information, see Managing FPN Connections.

  • A new FPN Trust tool allows you to set up one-way or two-trust between the systems in an FPN connection. Use of this tool is optional; you can still set up trust using the Single Sign-On wizard that is available in SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

For more information, see Setting Up Trust Using the FPN Trust Editor and Setting Up Trust Using the SSO Wizard.

  • To facilitate the creation of FPN connections, you can now define your HTTP/HTTPS, RMI-P4, and external network connection settings once (in the FPN Control Panel), and then immediately reuse those settings in the FPN Connection wizard without having to enter them again.

For more information, see Setting Default Connection Values.

  • As a result of the new FPN administration tools, the introduction of the FPN connection concept, and the separation of functionality of remote delta link and remote role assignment usage from WSRP application sharing usage, the Detailed Navigation entries in the Federated Portal workset have changed and are now:

    • SAP NetWeaver - FPN Connections: Provides the following administration tools for managing capabilities related to remote role assignment and remote delta link usage between two portals running in SAP NetWeaver:

      • Manage My FPN Connections: Allows you to create, edit, and manage FPN connections that include your system. Some functionality available in this tool is disabled in SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2.

      • Control Panel: Allows you to define general preferences that are related to your FPN connections, such as setting a password that remote systems need to enter when connecting to your system upon registration, and an option to quickly block all FPN-related traffic to and from your system. It also provides options to manage the FPN cache and to define the default connection settings of your system.

    • Non-SAP - WSRP Connections: Provides the following administration tools for managing capabilities related to WSRP application sharing between your portal and a remote third-party WSRP-compliant portal:

      • View My WSRP Producers: Allows you to view the remote WSRP-compliant producer portals with which your portal is registered as a consumer. This tool does not apply to an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 portal.

      • Manage My WSRP Producers: Allows you to create, edit and manage connections to remote WSRP-compliant producer portals. This tool does not apply to an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 portal.

      • My WSRP Consumers: Allows you to view the remote WSRP-compliant consumer portals that are registered with your portal.

For more information, see Managing WSRP Connections.

System Landscape Directory (SLD) Integration

New

If you have incorporated the systems in your landscape in the SLD, you can quickly create FPN connections between your system and remote systems with a single click. There is no need to manually enter any connection settings – the default connection settings of your system are already defined in the FPN Control Panel, and the connection settings of the remote system are already defined in the SLD.

Note Note

The ability to create an FPN connection is not available in an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 system. You can however use the tool to view limited information about SLD-based systems.

End of the note.

For more information, see Creating FPN Connections.

Creating FPN Connections in SAP NetWeaver Administrator

New

A new configuration task, called FPN (Federated Portal Network) - Create an FPN Connection Between Portals, is available in the Configuration Wizard in SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

The configuration task provides an alternate means for a system administrator to create and register an FPN connection between the local system and a remote SAP NetWeaver system directly in SAP NetWeaver Administrator, without having to access the portal.

Note Note

The ability to create an FPN connection using the new configuration task is not available in an SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 system.

End of the note.

For more information, see Creating FPN Connections in SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

Registration Password Configuration

Changed

You no longer define the registration password in the AutoGenProducer1_0 service in SAP NetWeaver Administrator on the producer system. The previous REGISTRATION_PASSWORD property has been deprecated. You now define the registration password in the FPN Control Panel in the producer portal.

For more information, see Setting a Registration Password.
