Configuring User Management in the Portal
The user management engine (UME) provides user management for SAP NetWeaver Portal. The UME is a service of SAP NetWeaver Application Server (AS) Java.
Use this procedure to perform the minimum configuration of the UME in the portal. You need to set up the data source of the UME, create a few users, and assign an end user role.
Log on to the portal with an administrator user.
The user ID and password of the administrator user depends on how you configured user management during installation.
For more information, see Standard Users.
Example
If you configured the UME to use the database of the AS Java as the data source, you log on with the user Administrator and the password you defined during the installation.
Note
If the following is true:
You have just finished installing the portal.
You are using an ABAP data source.
The AS Java administrators group (a PFCG role in the ABAP system) is not called SAP_J2EE_ADMIN.
You intend to share roles between the portal and ABAP system.
Then the system does not automatically assign this group the pcd:portal_content/administrator/super_admin/super_admin_role portal role. Log on as the administrator (for example, J2EE_ADMIN) and assign the AS Java administrator group to the portal super administration role.
For more information, see Assigning Portal Roles to Users and Groups.
Determine if you want to change the data source of the UME to an LDAP directory.
This option is only available if you installed the AS Java with the database as the data source.
For more information, Configuring the UME to Use an LDAP Directory as Data Source.
Create one or more administrator users and assign the default Administrator role.
Recommendation
Do not use the default administrator user to do all your configuration. For auditing purposes, we recommend that administrators use accounts associated with specific people.
We also recommend creating at least a second administrator account, just in case the administrator is locked out accidentally. It is true that you can unlock your administrator account with the emergency user, but to activate the emergency user, you must restart the AS Java.
Assign a portal role to the default group Everyone.
This ensures that all users have a portal role assigned. Without a role, users see a blank page when they log on to the portal.
Recommendation
If this group does not have a role assigned to it, we recommend that you assign the role pcd:portal_content/every_user/general/eu_role.
Perform any other configuration tasks for the UME.
For more information, see Configuring User Management.
Consider performing configuration tasks for user authentication and Single Sign-On.
