Your working environment, in which you visually model and manage portal content and applications, is the Portal Layout board, a part of Visual Composer Storyboard. For more information, see Introducing the Storyboard Desktop.

The following figure shows the Portal Layout board in Storyboard.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

The Portal Layout board areas match those of the L-shaped portal desktop at runtime.

In the Portal Layout Board

Top-level Navigation panel (TLN)

The navigation panel in the header area of the portal that provides the initial entry point to portal navigation.

The objects that you place on this panel, such as pages, roles or worksets, serve as the entry points of second-level navigation. The model tabs represent the entry points of first-level navigation. The TLN panel is only visible when it is relevant for the current model type.

Content area

An area where content is displayed.

An area onto which you place content objects such as iViews and pages, as well as application elements (composite views).

Navigation panel

Contains the following navigation areas:

Detailed Navigation

An area that extends the TLN. It contains dynamic navigation iViews, which allow further exploring of the content displayed in the content area.

This area is visible when the current model type requires third-level navigation, such as role, workset, Business Suite view or container.

Dynamic Navigation

An area containing context-sensitive dynamic navigation iViews. These iViews contain links to pages and iViews that dynamically change the content displayed in the content area.

An area onto which you place content objects such as iViews and pages.

Related Items/Services

An area containing a list of links representing iViews that are relevant to the content displayed in the content area. When activated, these links open in a new window.

This area is labeled Related Services only when the current model type is Business Suite view, otherwise it is labeled Related Items.

Object-based navigation area

There is no area in the portal where the navigation objects are visible.

An area onto which you place target business object operations. This area is only visible when the current model type is page or iView.

Compose task panel

A part of Visual Composer Storyboard; an area containing model elements that you drag to the Portal Layout board.
