The SLD contains information about your system landscape that is relevant for system management, business processes, and various application areas. In certain situations, systems that are accessible externally form business scenarios with internal back-end systems. These scenarios can involve the SLD. In this case, the SLD contains information about both external and internal systems.

You use e-business in systems that are in front of the firewall. These e-business systems communicate with back-end systems that are behind the firewall.

For security reasons, place the SLD server behind the firewall, and configure the firewall for RFC and HTTP connections. We recommend that you secure these connections by means of VPN or SNC.
