A portal theme defines the visual appearance of the user interface elements of a portal desktop. A portal theme does not define the layout, structure, or contents of a portal desktop. This is defined by the framework page (see Understanding Framework Pages).

Neither the framework page nor the portal theme are directly assigned to a user. You combine framework pages and portal themes to create portal desktops which are then assigned to users. For more information, see Understanding Portal Display Rules.

You can develop your own portal themes by modifying one of the theme templates provided by SAP. For example, you can change the color scheme of the portal, change the size and type of fonts, and add your company's logo.

You create and edit portal themes in the Theme editor, where you can edit a fixed number of theme properties, such as background color. The corresponding stylesheets are generated automatically and do not need to be edited directly. The Theme Editor supports the CSS1 standard for cascading stylesheets.
