Starting and Stopping the Application Server
Java (AS Java)
Use this procedure to start, stop and restart SAP NetWeaver Application Server Java (AS Java), individual instances, application server processes, services and deployed applications.
The AS Java is started and controlled by the JSTART program.

When you start the AS Java you start the database, the available Java instances, the central services instance and the respective server processes.
1. Start the SAP Management Console (SAP MC).
The SAP MC automatically displays the database and the instances installed on the local host.

2. In the navigation pane, open the tree structure and navigate to the system node that you want to start.

If you need to administer remote systems, you have to register them in the SAP MC.

3. Select the system node and then, from the context menu, choose Start.
4. In the Start SAP system(s) dialog box, choose the preferred options. The system may prompt you for the SAP system administrator credentials. To complete the operation, you must have administration permissions.

When you start the SAP system with the SAP MC under Microsoft Windows, you start the available Java instances, the central services instance, the respective server processes, and the database. However, when you start the SAP system under other operation systems, the database does not start automatically. For information how to start the database, refer to the respective database documentation.
Similarly, you can start all SAP systems and individual instances, registered in the SAP MC.

1. In the SAP MC, select the system you want to stop, and from the context menu, choose Stop.
2. In the Stop SAP system(s) dialog box, choose the preferred options. The system may prompt you for the SAP system administrator credentials. To complete the operation, you must have administration permissions.
3. Choose OK. The SAP MC stops the SAP system instances.

When you stop the SAP system with the SAP MC, the database does not stop automatically. For information how to stop the database, refer to the respective database documentation.
Similarly, you can stop or restart all SAP systems and individual instances, registered in the SAP MC.
