You use the Define Sort dialog box to sort output data according to the values in a specified field.

You display the Define Sort dialog box by selecting a Sort operator icon on the Design board and clicking the browse button next to the Configuration field in the Configure Element task panel, or by right-clicking the Sort operator icon on the Design board and choosing Define Operator from the context menu.

The Define Sort dialog box contains the following items:

Description

Add Row

Adds another row to the list. You can then define the field according to which you want to sort the data.

The data is sorted according to the values of the field defined in the first row of the Define Sort dialog box, and then the sorted data is further sorted according to the second row, and so on.

Delete Row

Removes the highlighted row from the list.

Move Up

Moves the highlighted item one place up in the list, changing the sorting priority.

Move Down

Moves the highlighted item one place down in the list, changing the sorting priority.

Sort By

The data field according to which you want to sort the output data. In the dropdown list, you can select a field from the data source connected to the operator, or you can select Define expression to define a field using the Dynamic Expression Editor dialog box.

Direction

The direction in which to sort the data. For example, you can sort text, numbers, or data in ascending (Up) order (A to Z, zero to 9, or earliest to latest date). Or, you can sort in descending (Down) order (Z to A, 9 to zero, or latest to earliest date).

Display all rows

At runtime, shows all returned and sorted data.

Number of rows

At runtime, shows only the specified number of sorted data records.

Description area

Displays a description of the selected sort definitions, in plain-language sentence format. For example, Sort by =@BANK_CTRY Ascending, then by =@CITY Ascending. Keep the first 30 record(s).
