Use

In the Page Editor you edit pages to determine their content, the layout in which the content appears, and the property values of both the page and the content. Layout editing activities determine an object’s physical placement. For information about layouts, see Page Layouts.

If you navigate to another editor (Permissions, Related Links, etc.) while editing a specific page, and you want to return to the Page Editor, from the Editor link bar, select Page.

Note

Since the Portal Catalog does not display the contents of a page, to view the page's contents without opening the Page Editor, right-click the page name in the Portal Catalog and choose Preview. A separate window opens to display the current status of the saved page.

Procedure

To edit a page, in the Portal Catalog right-click the relevant page and choose Open Page. The Page Editor opens and you can perform the following operations:

Operation

What You Should Know

Add an object to a page.

See Adding Content to a Page.

Preview a page after adding or removing content.

Choose Preview to display the current status of a page in the editor, not its status in the PCD.

Hide an object by clearing its checkbox in the Visible column.

A hidden object is not displayed when the page first opens.

During personalization at runtime, portal users have access to all the objects associated with the page (whether currently displayed or not), and can redefine any hidden object as visible.

The default status for a newly-added object is Visible.

Lock an object to the page by selecting the checkbox in the Fixed column.

When an iView is set to Fixed:

The checkbox in the Visible column is automatically selected.

At runtime, portal users may minimize the iView in the content area, but not remove it from the page during personalization.

It is automatically displayed when the page first opens.

The default status for a newly-added object is Not Fixed.

Change the location of an object within its container.

Select the object and choose Move Up or Move Down.

Place a selected object in a different layout container.

Select the item you want to move and from the Container dropdown list select the container to which you want to move the object.

Since each column contains only one container, this action is not applicable to a page based on a one-column layout.

To select or clear all the objects on a page, click the icon in the heading of the first column, and choose Select All or Deselect All.

The Open button is disabled when more than one object is selected.

Some editing options are not available on an “edit all” basis.

To view and edit the property values of a page and to access the attributes of each property, from the Editor link bar, select Properties.

Click the arrow beside a property to view or edit certain property attributes. For information on attribute values, see Defining Property Attributes.

To view and edit an object in the page, click Open.

The Open button is disabled for unsaved, newly-added iViews. Choose Save to enable the Open button.

When editing a nested page, clicking Open displays any other pages and iViews belonging to that page. You can then edit the properties of all the nested objects, not only those of the page.

When you select the smallest unit on a page (iView) for editing, the Property Editor expands to the entire content area.

If an object has its own editor, such as a URL iView, clicking Open reveals the object’s editor.

For more information about editing object properties, see Property Editor.

To view the relationships between a selected object and other objects in a delta link chain, including the source object, from the Editor link bar, select Delta Link Tracer.

The displayed page is read-only and is for the purposes of:

Displaying all objects that will be affected if you edit the selected object.

Providing access to the source object.

For more information about delta link origins, see Tracing Delta Link Dependencies.

Delete an object or multiple objects from a page by selecting the appropriate rows and clicking Remove.

Child objects do not appear in the navigation panel. When you remove a child object from a page, you render it inaccessible, unless you reinsert its source object.

If you decide not to remove the object, from the tool area choose Refresh before saving the page.

When editing an object within a page, choose Close to return to the page you originally opened for editing.

View the page layouts assigned to the page.

From the Current Layout dropdown list, select the layout you want to view. The page adjusts accordingly.

Add layouts that were not originally assigned to the page, remove layouts that you do not want associated with a page, or change the default layout.

Choose Add/Remove Layouts, follow the instructions in the Add/Remove Layouts pane, and then click OK to return to the Page Editor.

Note

You cannot add content to, or remove content from, pages that originate from external repositories. To add content to a page that originates from an external repository, create a new page, add the copied page to that page, and then add additional content.
