Identity Management of the Application Server Java 

Purpose

Identity Management of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server (AS) Java enables you to manage users and roles for access to applications of the AS Java and the data, which the applications require. The user management engine (UME) provides identity management as a service of the AS Java. Thus the identity management features of the AS Java are identical with that of the UME.
