Background documentation Hierarchy  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

In the Hierarchy view, you can view the archive hierarchy for all the systems for which archiving sets exist, even if no data has been archived yet. This function allows you to get an overview of the archiving sessions that have been started in your system and their current status. You can also view further details about each session and depending on the status of the archiving session branch to functions for writing or creating collections, for example, directly from within this Hierarchy view.

Viewing Archiving Sessions

You can view archiving sessions always for one system at a time. Under NetWeaver Systems choose the system for which you want to view the archiving session details.

Overview of Archiving Sessions

The archive hierarchy is displayed in the Overview of Archiving Sessions frame. For each home collection you can drill down into the different sub collections to view the archiving sessions. Each archiving session shows its current status. The different statuses are explained under Legend:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Completed archiving session: the write and delete phases have been completed.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Incomplete archiving session: the write phase has been completed, but the delete phase has not yet been started

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Failed archiving session: the write session was terminated before it could be completed, due to an error or an interruption

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Running archiving session: the write or delete phase is currently running

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Scheduled archiving session: the write session has been scheduled (for more information on scheduling, see Write)

Filters

It is possible to view the entire archiving hierarchy for a specific system or use filters to view specific collections or sessions:

Show Archiving Set: To view all the archiving sessions for a specific archiving set, select the desired archiving set from the dropdown list. The archive hierarchy shows only the collection of the archiving set you selected, and all corresponding archiving sessions with their respective statuses. The default value for this filter is All.

Status Filter: To view all the archiving sessions with a specific status, select the desired status from the dropdown list. The archive hierarchy shows only those sessions with the status you selected. You can use this filter for All archiving sets or for a specific archiving set. The default value for this filter is Incomplete.

Session Details

You can select a specific session in the hierarchy and view detailed information about it in the Session Details frame that appears at the bottom of the screen. It provides detailed information about the session itself and about the write and delete phases:

Name: Provides the URI of the archiving session, as well as its name and comment, if applicable.

Write Phase: Provides information about who started the write session, when it was started and stopped, and how many resources were archived in total.

Delete Phase: Provides information about who started the delete session, when it was started and stopped, and how many resources were deleted in total.

Log: Provides detailed information about the session and the processes that were executed during the write or delete phases. This log information is provided by the application. If no log exists, then the application of that particular archiving set does not support a detail log.

Starting Functions for Specific Archiving Sessions

You can start functions, such as the writing or deletion of resources, and the creation and deletion of collections, directly from the Hierarchy view. When you select a specific collection or resource the system offers you the possible functions for that particular collection or resource. The functions that are not available for that particular collection or resource are grayed out:

Schedule Write Session: This function is possible when you have selected a home path collection or any of its subcollections. Choosing this function allows you to create new archiving sessions directly in a home path collection or one of its subcollections. This means that when you choose this function, you branch directly into the Write view of the Java Archiving Cockpit. The system automatically selects the archiving set for you, based on the collection you selected in the archive hierarchy. For more information on how to proceed with the write session, see Write.

Schedule Delete Session: This function is possible for all archiving sessions marked as incomplete (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) or failed (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text). Choosing this function allows you to start the delete phase for the incomplete archiving session you have selected. This means that when you choose this function, you branch directly into the Delete view of the Java Archiving Cockpit. The system automatically fills in the archiving set and the archiving session you selected in the archive hierarchy. For more information on how to proceed with the delete session, see Delete.

Create Collection: This function enables you to create new collections under any collection you select in the archive hierarchy. When you choose this function, a dialog box appears, displaying the archive path under which you are creating the new collection. Enter the desired collection name and choose Ok. The new collection is physically created and appears in the archive hierarchy.

Note

When creating new collection you must adhere to the following naming conventions:

The name field may not be empty.

The entered name may not be longer than 255 characters.

The entered name may not begin with a double underscore ("__").

The entered name may not end with a period (".").

If the entered name begins with an underscore ("_"), then it may not end with ".xml" or ".bin".

        Only the following characters are allowed A to Z, a to z, _, 0 to 9, -, ., ! and ~.

Delete Collection: This function allows you to delete the collection you have selected in the archive hierarchy. Note that if the collection already contains archived resources, they are deleted together with the collection.

Delete Session Information: This function deletes all session information stored below the selected node. It does not delete any archived resources.
