The SAP NetWeaver Application Server allows direct online access to Web Dynpro applications using mobile devices. For the development of mobile Web Dynpro applications, the application development uses the same metadata model, the same development environment, and the same functions provided for non-mobile Web Dynpro applications – for example, connecting a back end, user management, and so on. As part of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server, Web Dynpro provides a development and runtime environment with which you can quickly and simply create professional user interfaces for desktop PCs or for mobile devices.

No additional installations are necessary. You develop in the same development environment – the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio – that you use to program Web Dynpro applications for a desktop browser.

Procedure

       1.      Check the mobile device you want to use for your mobile application:

Pocket PCs, BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds, and Nokia Series 80 devices are always online applications that run on the SAP NetWeaver Application Server and are displayed in the Web browser of these mobile devices.

       2.      Check whether there is a Web Dynpro application available that you can reuse for your mobile application and test whether the user interface also fits the small screen of the mobile device.

       3.      In the Web Dynpro Perspective of Developer Studio, you would go on with the view design if project and component are already available. If not, perform the few steps before.

       4.      Start the View Designer tool, and design the view with the available UI elements as you would for a non-mobile WD application.
