Background documentation Connecting Model Elements  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

You can connect model elements in several different ways, depending on the type of element and the type of information or event flow required. Connecting lines are used to channel data and events between model elements according to the specific element type. You use connecting lines to indicate the direction of the flow of information or events from one model element to another.

When you connect model elements to each other, you drag from the port of one element to the port of another element. The shape of the port indicates the type of data input to or output from the element:

The following table describes the types of connections that you can make between model elements:

Connection Type

Description

Data binding

A connection between two view elements (or between a Web service and a view element) that channels identical data from the output port of one view element to the input port of the other view elements.

Data flow

The means by which data is channeled between a data service and the connected model.

Data mapping

A connection between two model elements describing, for example, what data is input to an element or what fields are output from another element. This type of connection requires mapping of the data fields from the input element to the fields of the data service. For more information, see Mapping Data.

Note

When you drag out from the input port of a data service to create the input element, the fields are mapped automatically.

Transition

A connection between two containers (Panel and Popup) or between two layers within a container (View Switch, Tabstrip, and Wizard), defined according to the event that triggers the transition from one layer to the other. To create a transition, select the source container or layer and drag the solid dot at the top to the flashing dot of the target layer or container. When you release the mouse, a transition line is created.
