Creating iViews from Remote SourcesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Context

SAP NetWeaver Portal enables the creation of iViews based on remotely located systems, including back-end ABAP systems or and other remote applications. You use the iView wizard to search for applications in the selected back-end system, and then integrate them directly to the folder, role or page from which you initiated the creation of the iView. You can integrate the following application types:

  • SAP Portal Component iView

  • Transaction

  • Web Dynpro ABAP

  • Web Dynpro Java

Procedure

  1. Do one of the following to access the iView Upload wizard:
    • From the folder in the Portal Catalog that is to contain the new iView, choose Start of the navigation path New Next navigation step iView from Remote Source End of the navigation path.

    • From the selected open role, choose iView from Remote Source from the dropdown menu of the appropriate New button.

    • From the selected open page, choose iView from Remote Source from the dropdown menu of the appropriate New button.

    The iView wizard opens.

  2. Search for the iView or iViews that you require:
    • Choose the alias of the back-end system from the Search In dropdown list.

    • Enter the application ID (or mask, using asterisks) in the Search For field.

    • From the Application Type dropdown list, choose the application type:

      • If you want to base your iView on a remote portal component, choose SAP Portal Component iView as the application type. In this case, you can also limit your search to a specific role by selecting it in the Search in role field. If you do not select a role and the search times out, a tree is displayed in which you can select specific branches in which to search.

      • If you want to base your iView on an SAP transaction, choose Transaction as the application type. Transactions can be started in different GUI variants and the prerequisites differ depending on the GUI type you want to use. For more information, see Support for GUI Types .

      • If you want to base your iView on Web Dynpro Java , choose one of the following options:

        • Basic : Creates a local iView that runs a remote standalone Web Dynpro application.

        • Advanced : Creates a local iView that runs a remote Web Dynpro page. In this case, you can also limit your search to a specific role by selecting it in the Search in role field. If you do not select a role and the search times out, a tree is displayed in which you can select specific branches in which to search.

    • Choose Go (or press Enter ). All application names that answer the search criteria are listed in the Available Applications column of the displayed table. The ID of each application is displayed as a tooltip on each entry.

  3. Select one or more applications for upload; you can use the Ctrl and Shift keys for multiple selections.
    Note

When uploading applications to a view container in an open role, you are limited to uploading a single application at a time.

  4. Add the applications to the Selected Applications list using the Add and Add All buttons as needed.
    Note

You can rename a selected application by changing its name in the Application Name column.

  5. To add applications from other back-end systems, perform steps 2 to 4 again. The applications that you choose are added to those already in the Selected Applications list.
  6. Choose Next to open the Define Settings step of the wizard or Choose Start Upload to start the upload process.
    • The Define Settings step lets you choose the master language, define an ID prefix, and decide if uploaded content is to overwrite existing content.

    • After choosing Start Upload , a progress bar tracks the process. For each object uploaded, a message is displayed in the Status column of the Uploaded Applications list. Errors and other information can be accessed from the Information column. Choosing the link displays a new browser window with a full list of messages and errors.

  7. Choose Finish . The new iViews are now contained in the folder, role, or page from which the upload process was initiated.
