Broadcasting BEx Objects Using Multiple ChannelsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

Distribution type Broadcast (Multi Channel) allows you to distribute a BEx object (query, query view, Web template, report, or workbook) with one broadcast setting using multiple channels. Depending on the output format you choose, you can distribute the BEx object by e-mail, export it to the portal, or print it.

Prerequisites

You have created a broadcast setting and chosen Broadcast (Multi Channel) as the distribution type. You have also chosen the required output format.

Procedure

Specifying the Distribution Type

  1. On the Distributions tab page, choose the required distribution types (Broadcast E-Mail, Export to the Portal,or Broadcast to Printer). Depending on the output format you have selected, the BEx Broadcaster provides you with a selection of distribution types.
  2. If you want to broadcast the document as a ZIP file, select ZIP File.
    Note

    If you have selected HTML or MHTML as the output format and want to broadcast the document by e-mail, you have to create the document as a ZIP file.

  3. Under Create Parameters, make the following settings depending on the distribution type :

Broadcast by E-Mail

You can specify the recipients in different ways on the Recipients tab page:

  • Users
  • Users in Roles
  • E-Mail Addresses

On the Texts tab page, enter the subject line, the importance of the e-mail and the contents of the e-mail.

Export to Portal

On the Target in Portal tab page, specify the KM folder in which the document is to be stored. On the Texts tab page, enter the display name, the importance of the document, and a short description of the contents.

Broadcast to Printer

On the Printer tab page, choose the output device on which you want to print the document. You can only select devices that support the specified output format (PS, PCL, or PDF).

Making Language and User-Specific Settings

On the User/Language tab page, you can set which language, authorizations, and user-specific settings are used to generate the scheduled document for background processing of the broadcast setting.

Making General Settings for Precalculation and Creating Links

If you have selected a particular file format (HTML, PDF, PS, or PCL, for example) as the output format, you can make a number of different settings on the General Precalculationtab page.

If you have selected an online link as the output format, the settings options on the General Link Generation tab page are available to you.

Defining the Print Layout

Make the required settings for the print layout on the Layout tab page.

Note

The settings on this tab page are only necessary for the Printer Format (PS or PCL) and Portable Document Format (PDF) output formats. This tab page is not displayed for the other output formats.

Defining Texts for the Header and Footer

Define the texts for the header and footer of the print version on the Header/Footer tab page. You can also use text variables in the text.

Note

The settings on this tab page are only necessary for the Printer Format (PS or PCL) and Portable Document Format (PDF) output formats. This tab page is not displayed for the other output formats.

Specifying Filter Navigation

On the Filter Navigation tab page, you can specify characteristics or a control query so that the system precalculates multiple documents with different filter settings from the same BEx object (query or Web template, for example).

This tab page is not applicable to the Online Link to Current Data output format, and therefore is not displayed.
