Performing Wizard-Based Basic Configuration for BW ABAPLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

After installation but before manual configuration, you can perform the wizard-based basic configuration for SAP NetWeaver BW (BW ABAP). With wizard-based configuration, you can save time by cutting out manual steps.

Caution

Only perform wizard-based configuration if you system has not been configured yet. If you have already modified the system, or have upgraded from an older system, do not use the configuration wizard. Perform the configuration manually instead.

Prerequisites

Make sure that the following have been done before performing wizard-based configuration:

  • The user for the administrator has been created with the relevant authorizations in the BW system (ABAP). Profiles S_BI-WHM_RFC and S_BI-WX_RFC have been assigned to this user (minimum requirement).

  • You have set the basic parameters for the BW system in accordance with the recommendations in SAP Note 1044441 Information published on SAP site.

You can find an example of how the basic parameters can be set based on a scenario using Windows as the operating system with an Oracle database under http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e06b0480-eea1-2b10-fca4-fd8c8b692f32 in the SAP Community Network.

  • If you want to use the BW metadata search: You have created an RFC destination for TREX installation for BW metadata search with TREX.

You can find more information in Customizing, under Start of the navigation path Business Warehouse Next navigation step  Next navigation step Create RFC Destination for BW Metadata Search End of the navigation path.

Procedure

Automatic Configuration

To perform wizard-based configuration, use the wizard-based configuration tool:

  1. Open the wizard-based configuration tool.

For more information, see the documentation about the configuration wizard.

  2. Under Display, choose All Configuration Tasks.

  3. Select BI Initial Setup for ABAP and choose Start.

  4. Enter the required data on the next screen.

    Note

    Note the following:

    • The BW system can only be configured for one client. If automatic configuration has already been started with another client, you can only enter this client here. You cannot enter other clients until after a client copy has been made.

    • The master password that you enter here is used during automatic configuration, to create the background users for example.

  5. Choose Continue.

Under Details, the system displays a list of the steps that the wizard performs. The steps are performed in sequence. The system makes the required settings and displays any configuration errors. By clicking on a step once it has been completed, you can call the log.

Manual Configuration

If it is not possible to perform all steps automatically, you can perform them manually. Manual configuration is also necessary after an upgrade.
