Use

The ITS is part of the SAP Web Application Server. It is installed automatically with the SAP Kernel. To be able to use a service using the ITS, you first have to follow the standard procedures for activating and configuring the Internet Communication Manager (ICM). You can find more information in Administration des ICM.

It is also necessary to activate the services to be executed and the default_host/sap/public/bc/its/mimes services in the Internet Communication Framework (ICF). For more information, see Activating/Deactivating ICF Services.

Ensure that both of the Internet services system and webgui and the Internet service to be used (also known as SAP GUI for HTML) were published because objects of these services are partly in use by other services.

The ICF path for the webgui service is /default_host/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/. You can search for the service using the path in transaction SICF. HTTP queries with path entry /sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui are forwarded to the request handler of the integrated ITS. The complete URL for accesing the SAP system with SAP GUI for HTML is

http(s)://<icman-host>:<icman-port>/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui

Two profile parameters (see also Changing and Toggling Profile Parameters) are of particular interest when implementing the integrated ITS:

  • itsp/enable

With this parameter you can deactivate (0) or activate (1) the integrated ITS. Even when the integrated ITS is activated, it only makes use of system resources when it is actually used. However, it can make sense to deactivate it so that no users with SAP GUI for HTML can access the SAP system using special application servers (for example, batch or update instances). Since converting SAP screens to HTML pages requires additional CPU time, it makes sense to reserve a number of dedicated application servers for implementation with SAP GUI for HTML and to use a special logon group to distribute the load between them.

  • em/global_area_MB

The global area is one of all the work processes of the SAP Kernel using the same memory. The integrated ITS uses it for the runtime version of the HTML business templates (preparsed templates). The required memory space depends on the number and size of the templates used to display services called by the users. The default value is large enough to use SAP GUI for HTML with a browser version in a logon language. If your user accesses the ITS with different languages or browsers (for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator), or if they need additional services aside from SAP GUI for HTML, the number of templates used increases and you will have to adjust em/global_area_MB. You can find information about when and how you have to adjust this parameter in SAP Note 742048 Information published on SAP site.

    Note

If the SAP GUI logon fails for HTML/IAC, see SAP Note 698329 Information published on SAP site.
