Configuring Desktop Display Rules for Mobile DevicesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

  • You are assigned the System Admin role

Context

Portal on device comes with display rules for that associate between the out-of-the-box Smartphone Portal Desktop and Tablet Portal Desktop and the device types Smartphone and Tablet , respectively.

You can use device groups and device types in rule collections to assign a specific desktop at runtime, according to the user agent of the browser being used to access the portal. Using device types in the rule collection enables you to assign the same desktop to more than one device group (of the same type) using a single IF statement. For example, you can configure a rule that associates the Smartphone Portal Desktop desktop with a custom device group that you created.

Note

If you are using device types in a rule collection, you must make sure that at least one device group is defined with the required device type. If you are using device groups in a rule collection, you must first define the required device groups. For more information, see Using Device Groups .

Instead of using the device group mechanism, you can also configure a URL alias that displays the mobile desktop. For more information, see Defining URL Aliases .
