Calling BEx Objects and BW Objects in the PortalLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The portal desktop is the initial page for calling content from BEx and BW objects in the portal. The header area contains the initial navigation bar which includes all of the initial folders for the Portal roles assigned to a user. The initial entry takes place through the portal roles.

When you select a folder, either an iView, a Portal page in the content area of a subfolder in detailed navigation is displayed.

Features

You have the following options when calling BEx or BW objects:

  • The BEx Web applications as iViews are started directly from portal roles or portal pages.
  • You can include BEx Web applications as documents and links in Knowledge Management (KM) as iViews. You can also display the documents and links that can be selected using BEx Portfolio or KM navigation iView.

WithKM-Navigation iView, a complete Knowledge Management folder is displayed. The KM Navigation iView allows you to execute Collaboration functions for these documents and links (see Collaboration with Other Users). BEx Portfolio is a special graphical display of the KM Navigation iView (see Calling with BEx Portfolio).

The main difference between the two options for calling BEx and BW objects can be summarized as follows:

With portal roles, you navigate using the initial navigation bar and detailed navigation. On the other hand, navigation with folders in Knowledge Management uses the content area.

The various options for including collaboration functions with documents and links are explained in the Business Explorer Portal role. More information:Business Explorer Portal Role.
