Use

Integration with SAP Enterprise Information Management solutions the possible use of SAP NetWeaver BW in the following areas:

Integration with SAP Data Services

  • Data transfer to BW

    • Staging BAPIs

As of Release XI 3.2, Staging BAPIs allow you to use SAP Data Services to transfer data from non-SAP sources, legacy systems for example. The data transfer can be triggered from the BW system or from SAP Data Services. The integration supports DataSources of object type RSDS.

More information: Transferring Data Using Staging BAPIs

    • Data transfer to BW with specific source system type

As of SAP Data Services Release 4.0, you can set up the connection to the non-SAP sources and the data transfer via a Data Services source system type and exclusively from the BW system. The integration supports DataSources of object type RSDS and tables as source objects.

More information: Transferring Data with SAP Data Services..

If you want to load a table with a 1:1 assignment into a DataSource in the BW system, we recommend that you load the data using the SAP Data Services source system. If you join different source tables in SAP Data Services, cleanse data before transferring it to the BW system or you want to apply data quality measures in SAP Data Services (no 1:1 mapping of source data to the BW DataSource), we recommend that you load the data using the source system type "external system" (staging BAPIs).

  • Distributing data from BW

As of Release XI 3.2, the open hub destination and process chains allow you to use SAP Data Services to extract data from an InfoProvider. SAP Data services reads the data using open hub destination type Third-Party Tool.

More information: Distributing Data from the BW System

  • Starting Jobs Using Process Chains in SAP Data Services

A process type is available to start jobs in SAP Data Services (Release 4.1 and higher). Note that the process type should not be used instead of the InfoPackage for extraction and is not suitable for reading data from the open hub destination.

Integration with SAP Information Steward - Impact Analysis and Data Lineage

Integration with SAP NetWeaver BW is possible with Release SAP Information Steward 4.0 and higher. SAP Information Steward is a Web-based application that provides an integrated view of the metadata of connected systems and the relationships between the metadata. BW metadata can also be displayed and analyzed here. For example, you can perform impact analyses and data lineage on BW object level:

  • Impact Analysis

Example: A BW DataSource can provide data both to BEx applications and to SAP BusinessObjects reporting and analysis applications. Before making a change in the DataSource's structure, you can use SAP Information Steward to find out which applications this change will affect.

  • Data Lineage

Example: For a specified BEx query, you can display the BW objects that this query supplies with data.

Integration (Release 4.1 and higher) also enables you to perform impact analysis and data lineage on field/InfoObject level.

Note

Integration on object level is also possible with Release XI 3.1 or higher of the predecessor product: SAP BusinessObjects Metadata Management.
