Creating Source Data Stores in the Data Services SystemLocate this document in the navigation structure

Context

When creating a Data Services source system in the Attributes of the BO Data Services System screen in BW, create a source datastore if one does not already exist. The source datastore creates the connection to the external server that you wan to load the data from.

Procedure

  1. Under Source Datastore in the Third-party system connected using Data Services group, enter a name for the datastore and press Create. The BW system connects with Data Services and displays the Data Services Datastore <Datastore Name> dialog, where you can configure the datastore.
  2. The system displays the input help for the datastore types in Data Services. The information shown here is up to date and is synchronous with the Data Services system. Select the datastore type (for example, RDBMSDataStore) and press Continue. The system displays more input fields in the Data Services Datastore <Datastore Name> dialog.
  3. In the field for the datastore configuration, select the datastore configuration type, for example MySQLDataStoreConfiguration.
  4. More fields for maintaining the datastore properties are displayed in the Data Services Datastore <Datastore Name> dialog.
    Note

    The name of the connection is preset by the system as DEFAULT. This is because a datastore can have various configurations, each of which defines the connection to another system (for example for development, testing and productive use). The BW system always connects with the datastore's default configuration. You can change the name of the default configuration.

  5. Enter the rest of the data that is required for the connection to the external system that the data is loaded from. The entries that you have to make depend on the selected datastore type configuration.
    Note

    • The entry fields follow the naming conventions for the Data Services system and not the BW naming conventions.

    • You can make subsequent changes to the configuration of the datastores in Data Services Designer. No datastore metadata is stored in the BW system.

  6. To return to the Attributes of the BO Data Services System dialog, choose Continue. If you press Continue in this dialog, the datastore is created in the Data Services system.
