SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW) provides mechanisms for extracting data, which is performed at BW's request (pull). Data can be extracted from various systems, called source systems. Data extraction is the operation of taking data from the operational source system and transferring it to the BW system. SAP NetWeaver Business Process Management (BPM) data is extracted using a UD (Universal Data) connect system and delta extraction is supported, which means that only data changed after the last extraction is extracted again.
Integration between BPM and BW enables reporting on both generic process data and process context data. Data is extracted from the operational source system using UD Connect DataSources for master and transaction data. The extractors providing data from the source system support delta extraction for all transaction and master data DataSources. Data is subsequently used for updating the relevant BI content objects, which are various information structures in the BW system.
You can find the current version of BI content documentation on SAP Help Portal, under
.Transaction Data
The following types of transaction data are provided by BPM extractors:
Transaction data based on process and task instances' current state information
Data extracted from the business log containing historical information regarding various life cycle events
Transaction data is extracted from the source system on a regular basis, for example once a day. Then, the data from the DataSources is updated into respective DataStore objects that can be used for reporting on instance level. Next, the data from the DataStore objects is aggregated into several InfoCubes that support reporting on various dimensions such as definition, status, priority, and so on, and provide additional key figures.
Master Data
Master data DataSources are used to extract data concerning process and tasks definitions, user data, and texts. Process and task definition master data and texts are not subject to regular changes in a productive system. Thus, their extraction and the update of the respective info provider can be scheduled when new process definitions or new process versions are deployed on the source system. The extraction of texts for process and task instances should be scheduled regularly to obtain the data needed for reporting on instance level.
Extraction of DataSources
Since delta extraction is supported for BPM DataSources, you need to extract the DataSources on a regular basis as follows:
Upon deployment of a new process definition or a new version of a process, you extract the following DataSources:
Definition Texts (SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data)
Definition Version Texts (SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data)
Definition Version Attributes (SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data)
On a daily basis, you extract the following DataSources:
BPM Business Log
Principal Assignment Log Events
Principal Assignment
Task Log Events
Task Instance Texts (SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data)
Task Instances
Process Log Events
Process Instance Texts (SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data)
Process Instances
Principal Attributes (SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data)
Update of Info Providers
After the DataSource extraction, the respective info providers are updated as follows:
SAP NetWeaver BPM Master Data
Upon deployment of a new process definition or a new version of a process:
Definition Version (Attribute)
Definition Version (Texts)
Definition (Texts)
On a daily basis:
BPM Object (Attribute)

You have configured the necessary settings to enable communication between the Application Server Java (AS Java) system, where the process model is deployed and the BW system. For more information, see Configuring BPM-BW Connectivity .
1. Create a UD Connect Source System
In the BW system, enter /nrsa1 in the search area and press ENTER .
In the Data Warehousing Workbench, select Source Systems under Modeling and in the context menu of the UD Connect folder, choose Create .
Select the required RFC Destination for the AS Java.
Specify a logical system name.
Leave the Type of Connector field blank.
In the Name of Connector field, select SDK_JAVA .
Specify the name of the source system if it was not determined from the logical system name.
In the Type and Release field, enter BPM720 .
Choose Continue.
2. Install the BI Content
You install the BI content, that is, you activate it to be able to load data in the different BI content objects. BPM provides BI content for the generic process data.
BPM BI content objects are included in package RS_BCT_GLX - SAP NetWeaver BPM BI Content Objects.
For more information about installing BI content, see Copying BI Content to the Active Version on SAP Help Portal under
.3. Trigger Data Extraction and Update of BPM Info Providers
To be able to use the delta extraction, you have to use the info packages provided with the respective DataSources. To update BPM info providers, you have to use the data transfer processes (DTP) for the respective info provider.
