Monitoring Databases in a Database LandscapeLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

In Database Studio, you are logged on to the databases that you want to monitor.

Context

Database landscapes are used for managing multiple database computers (servers).

Procedure

  • Opening the Databases Monitor
    1. In the explorer tree, go to the top level using the Up One Level button.

    2. Select the database landscape that you want to monitor.

    3. In the context menu of the database landscape, choose Databases Monitor.

  • Adding or Removing Columns
    1. Next to Editor Menu, open the dropdown menu.

    2. Choose Columns...

    3. Select or deselect columns.

    Shows whether automatic log backup has been activated.

    Data Cache Hit Rate

    The data cache hit rate shows whether the data cache has been configured sufficiently large. The lower the hit rate, the poorer your system's performance.

    Data cache hit rate > 99%

    Sessions

    Database sessions

    Note

    If no more database sessions are free, no more database users can log on to the database. To configure the number of available sessions, change the general database parameter MaxUserTasks.

    Changing Database Parameters

    Started On

    Time and date of the last database start

     

    User Name

    Name of the user with which Database Studio is currently connected to the database (login)

     

    Status

    Number of warnings

     

    Version

    Software version of the installation to which the database belongs

     
  • Sorting by Warning Level
    1. Add the Status column.

    2. Click the Status column header.

  • Changing the Properties of the Databases Monitor
    1. Next to Editor Menu, open the dropdown menu.

    2. Choose Properties...

    3. Specify your properties.

      Refresh interval

      Specifies how often the status information for the databases is refreshed (in seconds)

      Maximum number of threads to use

      Only relevant for large database landscapes

      Maximum number of threads that the system uses to update the status of the individual databases

      Restore databases monitor on startup

      To open the Databases Monitor after starting Database Studio, select this option.

  • Changing the Refresh Interval for Individual Databases
    1. In Databases Monitor, choose Properties in the context menu of the database.

    2. Change the refresh interval.
