Configure a Remote Database ConnectionLocate this document in the navigation structure

To monitor a remote system in DBA Cockpit, you need to create a DBA Cockpit configuration for a database connection.

Prerequisites

  • A database connection has been set up in DBA Cockpit.

More information: Setting Up Database Connections in Related Information.

  • The user for the database connection must have sufficient database privileges.

More information: Authorizations for DBA Cockpit in Related Information.

  • The system(s) you want to monitor must have a database release that is compatible with the database release of your local database.

Procedure

  1. From DBA Cockpit, choose System Configuration.

An overview of the monitored systems is displayed.

The state of each system is indicated as either System is Activated (Green) or System is Deactivated (Gray). To switch between the states of the integration data for a system, select the system and choose System is Activated or System is Deactivated.

  2. Choose Add.
  3. Specify the connection data.
    Field Description
    System

Specify the name of the system you want to monitor.

This name is a unique ID and does not need to be the SAP system ID. You can choose any name except the SAP system ID of the local system, which is reserved for the local system entry.

Tip To make the connections easier to identify, we recommend that you use the same name as the database connection, if possible.
    Remote Database

    Remote Database is already selected.

    Remote Database: Database Connection

    Select Database Connection.

Specify the name of the database connection.

If the database connection does not already exist, you are directed to the DB Connections: Add Connection Entry screen where you can specify all the relevant data for the new connection.

Note You can specify remote database connections for any database and maintain the connections using DBA Cockpit. This method uses additional connections. It is the main access method for monitoring and administration tasks and is mandatory.
    Remote Database: RFC Connection
Note RFC connections can only be assigned to SAP ABAP systems.

The only DBA Cockpit node that requires a RFC connection is at Start of the navigation path Diagnosis Next navigation step Missing Tables and Indexes End of the navigation path.

More information: Missing Tables and Indexes in Related Information

  4. Depending on the database platform, you can enter additional data on the Administration Data tab as follows:
    Field Description
