If you want to read data and metadata at InfoProvider level, you can use the Data Federator interface from the SAP NetWeaver BW system to connect SAP BusinessObjects tools (Web Intelligence, Explorer, Xcelsius) to the SAP NetWeaver NetWeaver BW system. The Data Federator interface uses the Data Mart interface (see Data Mart Interface). This makes it possible to read all data and metadata for an InfoProvider (characteristics, key figures, navigation attributes).
The Data Federator interface supports all InfoProviders in the BW system. InfoSets are deactivated in the standard setting however. If you want to use InfoSets, you can activate them by making the following entry in table RSDRI_DF_CONFIG:
CONFIG_ID = 'SUBTYPES'
CONFIG_VALUE = 'CUBE;ODSO;IOBJ;MPRO;HYBR;LPOA;VIRT;ELEM; ISET'
For more information about using queries as InfoProviders for the Data Federator interface, see Query as InfoProvider.
Access via the Data Federator interface is particularly suited for the following scenarios:
Scenario 1: Faster access to mass data with very large result sets
You use the SQL Connector for the SAP NetWeaver BW system. You can achieve a high level of performance when performing reporting on relational data. You only need the objects from the InfoProvider and do not need any of the objects defined at the BEx query level, such as calculated or restricted key figures.
For reporting on multi-dimensional data or with smaller result sets however, we recommend continuing with access via MDX.
Scenario 2: Combining SAP NetWeaver BW and other information
You can create multi-source relational universes by connecting SAP NetWeaver BW BW and other sources (for example DB, XML, SAS, Web Services) using the Data Federator interface.
The Data Federator interface is available with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 SPS3.
When configuring your BW system, you need to be aware of the following with regard to the integration of Data Federator:
Package size setting for SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator
We recommend setting the package size to 2,000,000. The value should definitely not be 0. This prevents all data from being delivered in a large package and prevents storage problems arising in Data Federator.
You can find out more by reading SAP Note 1157582.
Runtime setting for work processes
The standard value for this is 5 or 10 minutes. If you have Data Federator queries that run longer than this, you need to increase the value of parameter -rdisp/max_wprun_time Maximum work process run time accordingly to prevent the queries from terminating. Enter this parameter in the maintenance screen for profile parameters (transaction RZ11).
The Data Federator interface is fully compatible with the SAP HANA database and SAP HANA.
