Using Business Packages on SAP NetWeaver PortalLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

SAP business packages are sets of predefined content used for carrying out standard business tasks. The packages run on SAP NetWeaver Portal, and can access different back-end systems, such as SAP ERP or SAP CRM. For an overview of all available SAP business packages, see the Portal Content Portfolio on SAP Developer Network (SDN), at http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/contentportfolioInformation published on SAP site.

In contrast to the initial content that is delivered and installed with SAP NetWeaver Portal, business packages are delivered with a separate product, such as SAP Business Suite 7.

The following steps are required to install and configure business packages:

  1. Using the SAP Solution Manager, the SAP business packages are downloaded and installed as part of the specific product installation, such as SAP Business Suite 7.

  2. The system administrator configures the portal and system landscape.

  3. The user administrator assigns roles to users or user groups.

  4. The content administrator manages the portal content.

This topic describes the steps that you follow to install and configure an SAP Business Package on SAP NetWeaver Portal.

Prerequisites

Prior to installing the business packages on the portal, you should do the following:

  1. Access the Portal Content Studio on SAP Developer Network (SDN), at:

    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/contentportfolioInformation published on SAP site

Here you find an Excel file (packaged as a zip file) listing all business packages that have been delivered since SAP ERP 6.0. For every package, you can find the following information:

    • Business package name

    • Version

    • Shipped with release

    • Description

    • Details/Documentation

    • Useful notes

    • Technical name for download

  2. You can use this information to decide which product/release you need to install in order to get the functionality provided by the respective business package.

Process

In general, the business packages are downloaded and installed using SAP Solution Manager (SMP Login required). For more information about how to install portal content, check on SAP Service Marketplace (http://service.sap.comInformation published on SAP site) in the Master Guide of the product that contains the business package. There you will find all the required release information, such as the Master Guide for SAP enhancement package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0 (SMP Login required).

Post-installation and configuration steps are outlined in the individual documentation of the business package, along with its SAP notes.
