Developing Adapters and Modules
With this description you can develop adapters and modules for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration. Use the Adapter Framework in the Partner Connectivity Kit (PCK) or in the Advanced Adapter Engine Extended for testing.

The Adapter Framework interfaces are defined exclusively in this description and in the referenced Javadoc documentation. The source text examples and examples of XML documents and Web Services Description Language documents that are used or referenced below are merely examples to assist you in adapter development.
SAP does not guarantee that the applicability or executability of these examples will remain unchanged.
SAP Note 1004000 contains corrections and amendments made after completion of this documentation.

Without making any further changes you can deploy and use adapters and modules in the Integration Server that you developed.
To test your developed adapter and modules, use the PCK or Advanced Adapter Engine Extended.
You do not need a complete Process Integration landscape with Integration Server until the integration tests, for example with an SAP application

- Developing a Java Adapter in SAP NetWeaver PI
To develop your adapter in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio, follow these steps.
Module Development
The following descriptions are relevant to module development:
Adapters and modules that you have developed for SAP Exchange Infrastructure 2.0, SAP NetWeaver 2004 (SAP Exchange Infrastructure 3.0 (XI 3.0)), and SAP NetWeaver 7.0 will not work with SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 and later releases.
Convert these versions to SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 or higher. The changes to the Adapter Framework API are only syntactic, not semantic.

SAP provides a help for converting partner adapters and modules.
If you cannot convert adapters straight away, you can reconfigure them for a non-central Adapter Engine. This Adapter Engine is based on SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 7.0.
Connect the Adapter Engine to the XI Adapter on the Integration Server SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 or higher. Connect the Adapter Engine based on an earlier release using the SOAP Adapter with message protocol XI to an Advanced Adapter Engine Extended.
SAP is only providing this solution for a transition period. Upgrade your adapters to SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 or higher and have them certified as soon as possible.
