Filter PaneLocate this document in the navigation structure

Definition

Web item that allows you to display and select characteristic values or key figures for filtering.

Use

Using the Filter Pane Web item, you can set filters for individual characteristics or key figures. The characteristic values are provided for each characteristic (the key figures for each structure) in dropdown boxes. You can also drag characteristics or key figures from the navigation pane or the table to the filter pane using drag and drop.

Structure

The following information lists the parameters for the Filter Pane Web item, arranged according to the various parameter groupings.

Display

Parameter Description

Width in Pixels(WIDTH)

You use this parameter to specify the width of the Web item.

Full Width(FULL_WIDTH)

You use this parameter to specify that the value in the Width in Pixels (WIDTH) parameter should be ignored and that the width should be set to 100% instead. The full width depends on the width of the environment where the Web item is embedded (for example, the width of a tab page on a portal page or in an iView).

Height in Pixels(HEIGHT)

You use this parameter to specify the height of the Web item.

Full Height(FULL_HEIGHT)

You use this parameter to specify that the value in the Height in Pixels (HEIGHT) parameter should be ignored and that the height should be set to 100% instead. The full height depends on the height of the environment where the Web item is embedded (for example, the height of a tab page on a portal page or iView).

Visibility(VISIBILITY)

You use this parameter to specify whether the Web item should be visible in the Web application.

With Tray(WITH_TRAY)

You use this parameter to specify whether the Filter Pane Web item should contain an icon for expanding and collapsing the Web item. For more information about this parameter, see Parameter Tray

Internal Display

Parameter Description

Number of Columns(COLUMNS)

You use this parameter to specify the number of entries displayed adjacent to one another.

Max. No. of Summary Characters(MAX_SUMMARY_CHARACTERS)

You use this parameter to specify the maximum number of characters for the filter summary field.

Has Button Row(HAS_BUTTON_ROW)

You use this parameter to specify whether the filter area should have a pushbutton row.

Alphabetic Sorting of the Free Axis

(NAV_FREE_CHAR_SORTING)

You use this parameter to specify that characteristics in the Free Characteristics part of the filter pane are sorted alphabetically. Otherwise, the characteristics are displayed in the order defined in the query start view in Query Designer.

Any characteristics that you move from rows to the free characteristics during navigation in the Web Application will be inserted in alphabetical order if you have activated this option. Otherwise, they will be placed at the end of the list.

Wrapping(TEXT_WRAPPING)

You can use this parameter to stipulate that the text for the descriptions of the characteristics is wrapped, and that the Filter Area Web item is not widened. If too many columns are displayed though, and the system is not able to wrap the texts - the line break is only activated for blanks - the Filter Area Web item is widened.

In the default setting, this parameter is deactivated, and the descriptions of the characteristics are not wrapped. In the case of long characteristic descriptions and columns, the Filter Area Web item can be widened so much that you need to scroll.

Caution

In the standard setting, the columns are forced to the left border to make sure that the characteristic descriptions are near to the dropdown boxes.

If you have activated this parameter, this system behaviour is not possible, as text can only be wrapped in HTML if the width is defined from the beginning so that it can function properly if the size is changed. The standard setting is therefore 50% description and 50% dropdown box. If you set fewer columns in the Filter Area Web item, but make them wider, there might be an empty between the description and the dropdown box.

For more information, see SAP Note 1177028.

Behavior

Parameter Description

Allow Navigation(INTERACTION_ALLOWED)

You use this parameter to specify whether navigation and other interactions should be possible in the Web application.

Automatic Apply

(AUTOMATIC_APPLY)

You use this parameter to specify whether the system should make changes to the data provider (selection of filter values) automatically.

The automatic change is predefined. For every change made to a characteristic, the Web application is updated. If you deactivate this parameter, you can manually change characteristics before or without immediately updating the Web application. In this case, the Web application contains the Apply icon.

Caution

This parameter is not currently supported.

Data Binding

Parameter Description

Data Provider(DATA_PROVIDER_REF)

You use this parameter to assign a data provider to the Web item. The Web item obtains the data and metadata that it needs to generate the output and commands from this data provider.

Note

We advise you to follow the conventions supported by Web Application Designer when specifying names: Names can be a maximum of 30 characters and consist of characters A-Z, 0-9 and _, but cannot start or end with _. Following these conventions makes it easier to upgrade to subsequent SAP releases.

Affected Data Providers(LINKED_DATA_PROVIDER_REF_LIST)

You use this parameter to create a list of data providers that all commands are sent to.

For each entry in the data provider list, you select a data provider in the Affected Data Providers parameter (LINKED_DATA_PROVIDER_REF).

Note that you cannot create data providers in the parameter dialog box. You have to create them beforehand.

Initial Characteristic Set (INITIAL_CHARACTERISTIC_SET)

You use this parameter to specify which characteristics should be displayed initially in the filter pane.

  • None
  • All
  • List of characteristics

You can specify the required characteristics here.

  • Axes Selections

You can specify whether the characteristics for the rows, columns, or free characteristics are to be displayed.

Only Filtered Characteristics (INITIAL_ONLY_FILTERED)

You use this parameter to specify whether only characteristics that are already filtered should be displayed initially.
